Meet Kiara Brummell

The Botanique US Representative

My passion for the arts and history, especially those that tie closely with my heritage, has been a guiding force in my life. When I was introduced to this opportunity with Botanique through the Water's Edge Museum, I was thrilled by the chance to share the rich Black history and culture of Oxford and Bellevue, a place I consider my second home, while also deepening my understanding of my own heritage.
As an intern at the Water's Edge Museum in Oxford Maryland, I am fortunate to not only learn more about my heritage, culture, and environmental justice, but also to educate others who may not be as knowledgeable about these important subjects. This internship allows me to collaborate closely with professionals in my intended field of Interior Design, providing invaluable preparation for my upcoming studies at Anne Arundel Community College. I plan to spend my sophomore year at Anne Arundel before transferring to a four-year institution to earn my bachelor’s degree in interior design.
I have always been passionate about the arts and history/social studies. My drive to create has influenced every aspect of my life. I am therefore excited to bring this passion to my work with Botanique and to support its work to preserve Antigua and Barbuda's Intangible Cultural Heritage and to showcase the linkages with other cultures across the globe.

Botanique Studios

The masterful handicraft of wild tamarind and jumbie bead seedwork was a dying art, with only five women left in the world to create it until Botanique Studios.

Botanique is putting Antiguan and Barbudan seedwork, a tradition whose African origins have outlived and transcended its challenging past,

on a global stage of excellence, imbued with a message that is undeniably as beautiful, empowering, and profound as the craft itself.
